Artist's Description
This print is a reproduction of my original drawing of the Soldier's and Sailor's Monument, located in Indianapolis, Indiana. The monument is 284 feet and 6 inches in height, and was built in the neoclassical style. It was designed by German architect Bruno Schmitz, was erected between the years of 1880 and 1901 and is made of oolitic limestone from Owen County, Indiana. It is the first monument in the country dedicated to the common soldier and honors Hoosier veterans of the American Civil War, the American Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Mexican-American War and the Spanish-American War.
I am lucky to have a friend whose attorney has offices in one of the buildings on the circle. They, kindly, gave me a tour of the office one morning and let me take photos from this great vantage point.
The drawing was completed in early September, 2015
About Stephanie Huber
I'm a retired interior designer who loves architecture and doing obsessively rendered architectural drawings. I also enjoy painting, gardening, traveling with my husband and hiking with my dogs. If I ever complete my list of requested drawings of architecture from universities in Indiana, (mostly), I would like to start doing drawings of sites from my travels.
